Staff report: CAIRO, June 25, 2018 - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has lauded the gains that Saudi women have realised in the light of decisions that reflected a true will for the promotion of woman status. In comments he posted on his personal Facebook page Monday, President Sisi wrote that he followed with interest the gains that Saudi women are realising. Such gains, he added, reflect the determination of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as represented by King Salman and Crown-Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to empower Saudi women and protect their rights. The recent decisions, President Sisi added, came as a formidable proof of a genuine will for the promotion of the status of women in Saudi Arabia and supporting them for the sake of societal development. Those decisions also truly evidenced the courageousness of decision-making and the sincere desire for enlightenment and advancement, President Sisi wrote. As of Sunday, the ban on female motoring was officially lifted and Saudi women celebrated the development by driving across the capital Riyadh and other cities without the need for private chauffeurs or the company of male relatives. Many Saudi women also flooded the social media with videos of their maiden car rides.
