World Cup 2018: Group H Preview
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 12 - 06 - 2018

MOSCOW, June 12, 2018 (News Wires) - The 2018 FIFA World Cup has a couple of uncertain groups and group E is definitely one of them. Group H has Poland, Senegal, Colombia, and Japan.
Group H has some of the best players coming to the World Cup, and you almost find it impossible to separate them.It promises to be one of the most fiercely contested groups where no analysis can spell the winners here. Maybe the losers.
Poland
Poland showed some teeth in the Euros but were unlucky to bow out on penalties against Portugal. In qualification, the Poles sailed through with ease, winning 8 out of 10. Robert Lewandowski, was the toast of his nation, expectedly so, scoring 16 goals. The most by any player in that stage.
However, despite doing well in qualification, they have failed to replicate that form where it matters most, and will be looking to make amends.
Senegal
The Lions of Teranga can be said to be the France of Africa; a plethora of stars in their ranks. They boast a perfect blend of experience and youth, with an attacking side that can cause damage on any day. Carrying the continent's hopes on their shoulders, Senegal will be worth watching out for.
Colombia
After the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, one name -James Rodriguez- was in everyone's lips. The star attacker rose to the occasion, scoring some mind-blowing netbusters along the way to earn his name among the greats. Colombia is back to get the job done, and have a fairly good side that has among others Arsenal shot stopper David Ospina, Radamel Falcao and midfield controller Carlos Sanchez.
This is a good and compact squad that could also pull a surprise.
Japan
Sorry Japan. The men have been separated from the boys. The Japanese are in a tough group, where hopes for qualification are minimal. Although in their ranks they have experienced players like Southampton's Maya Yoshida, Inter Milan's Yuto Nagatomo and Makoto Hasebe, we don't see them making a huge impact here.
Players to Watch
Robert Lewandowski (Poland): Scored the most goals in qualification -16, and is one of the best number 9's in the world. A proven goalscorer, Lewandowski can single-handedly shred any defence, and will be a key man for his country.
Sadio Mane (Senegal): Although the Liverpool forward has not been as clinical for his country as he's been for club, he is a skillful and dangerous attacker who will be a threat to any opposition. Mane is one of the most sought after attackers, and his impact in the tournament will spur Senegal.
James Rodriguez (Colombia): No doubt that James is massively talented. He was the main man for his country in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and his impact was massive. Despite going on loan last season to Bayern Munich, he still flourished and will hence be one worth watching out for.
