CAIRO, June 4, 2018 (MENA) - The House of Representatives under Ali Abdel Aal approved on Monday an additional increase to wages and pensions which are stipulated in the 2018/2019 fiscal year. The new raise comes upon a suggestion by Abdel Aal to support citizens. The suggestion was approved by the ministers of finance and social solidarity during debates on the public report compiled by the Plan and Budget Committee of the Parliament. Under the new raise, salaries of public servants will be increased by four billion pounds while pensions will be upped by 600 million pounds. Minimum limit of pension increase was increased from 125 pounds to 150 pounds. During the session, Abdel Aal called for increasing salaries by 40 pounds for all brackets, which means additional four billion pounds to financial allocation for salaries in the 2018/2019 budget. Commenting on Abdel Aal's remark, Finance Minister Amr El Garhi requested the Plan and Budget Committee to find necessary resources for the additional raise in case a deficit in the budget was reported. Earlier, the Egyptian Parliament's Manpower Committee approved a bill granting a 15% increase in pensions for state employees to be applicable as of June of 2018.
