CAIRO, May 29, 2018 (MENA) – The Egyptian army killed eight takfiris and detained 64 wanted outlaws over the past few days in central and north Sinai, an army communiqué said on Tuesday. The security troops, comprising the air force, navy and army as well as the police and border guards, eliminated 80 hideouts and detonated 15 improvised explosive devices in the raids, which are part of the comprehensive operation Sinai 2018. The security forces seized arms, ammunitions, cash military uniforms, a laptop, telecommunication gadgets, a camera and explosives in plastic containers in the raids, the statement said. A total of 20 cars and 79 motorbikes without plates were either destroyed or seized in the operations. The air forces destroyed two vehicles carrying arms and ammunitions near the western border, the statement said. A number of bhang farms in Sinai were also wiped out in the raids, it said. The border guards detained 578 individuals for attempting illegal migration through the western border and 27 others of different nationalities trying to infiltrate into the country, according to the army statement. Two soldiers were killed and three others were injured in the operations. One military officer was injured, it added.
