ABU DHABI, May 9, 2018 (MENA) - Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni's visit to Egypt reflected distinguished ties binding the two countries, said Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Mubaje. He hailed the outcome of talks between Museveni and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Cairo and their agreement on setting up joint ventures. In statements to MENA on the sidelines of his participation in the First International Muslim Communities Congress (IMCC) in Abu Dhabi, the mufti lauded his country's relations with Egypt in the political, economic, religious and cultural fields. He also extolled the two leaders' keenness on solving all pending matters related to the file of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Mubaje stressed the necessity of promoting cooperation between Egypt and the Nile Basin countries in power generation projects. He also urged Egyptian businessmen to invest in Uganda in agricultural and industrial projects, stressing the importance of benefiting from the Egyptian expertise in these fields. Shifting to cultural and religious ties between the two countries, the Ugandan mufti said more than 300 Ugandans are studying in Al Azhar and many others had graduated from Al Azhar University and institutes. Nearly 300 Al Azhar teachers and scholars are teaching Arabic and the upright teachings of Islam in Uganda, he noted. IMCC opened in the UAE Capital on Tuesday to address challenges to Muslim minorities around the world.
