BENGHAZI, Libya, May 2, 2018 (AP) — Libyan officials say on Wednesday the death toll from a militant attack on the election commission in the capital has climbed to 11. Health Ministry spokeswoman Wedad Abu Niran says a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the building in central Tripoli and other militants set fire to it. The ministry said in a statement that 11 people were killed and another two were wounded. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Islamic extremists are opposed to democratic elections and have targeted them in other countries. Libya was plunged into chaos following the 2011 uprising that toppled and killed Moammar Gadhafi, and is now split between rival governments, each backed by an array of militias. A UN-backed government is based in Tripoli.
