CAIRO, April 21, 2018 (MENA) - European Union (EU) Energy and Climate Commissioner, Miguel Arias Canete will arrive in Cairo on Sunday, leading a high level delegation on a three-day visit to Egypt, to hold several meetings on means of boosting cooperation. The EU commissioner's visit comes upon an invitation from Petroleum Minister Tareq el Mulla, said a released statement by the Ministry of Petroleum on Saturday. The EU commissioner is set to meet with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, the ministry noted, pointing out that a memorandum of understanding for strategic partnership between the EU and Egypt in various energy domains will be inked. During Canete's visit, an expanded session of talks will be held, following a series of meetings that had been previously held to promote Egypt's oil and gas cooperation and partnership with the EU. Talks are expected to touch on cooperation domains in view of turning Egypt into a regional hub for gas, petroleum and energy trading in a move that would make the Mediterranean gas one of the major energy providers for Europe, the petroleum minister stated. The EU commissioner is scheduled to attend a conference that will be held here to announce details on the financing programs offered by the EU, the French Development Agency and the World Bank to support Egypt's project for the delivery of natural gas for more households.
