CAIRO, April 18, 2018 - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday conferred with Mr. Bertrand Marc Allen, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the US Boeing Company, which is helping the government develop its commercial aircraft fleet. During the meeting, Mr. Allen praised the on-going co-operation between the Cairo government and the Boeing Company, which goes back to more than 50 years. Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said that President Sisi and Mr. Allen reviewed the company's plans for modernizing the EgyptAir commercial fleet, which includes a huge number of various types of Boeing aircraft. Also, President Sisi and Mr. Allen agreed that government and the company should sign a contract for buying a new set of modern aircraft as well as approving the maintenance works for modern types of jets such as the Boeing 787 at the EgyptAir workshops, Ambassador Radi said. Such maintenance works would cover EgyptAir and non-EgyptAir owned jets, he added. In this regard, Mr. Allen said that the company would give quality assurance to the aircraft-related products that were manufactured by EgyptAir Factory, Ambassador Radi added. The Sisi-Allen talks also dealt with the possibility of launching an Egypt-based Boeing centre for building and maintaining aircraft including modern types of jets, the Presidency Spokesman said. Mr. Allen added that the company was keen on widening the scope of its activities in Egypt, which "has a huge potential for growth thanks to the country's unique geographical location". He said that the company was quite interested in taking part at the Egypt Defence Expo (EDEX 2018), which will be held in Cairo on December 3-5. More than 300 regional and international arms manufacturing companies are expected to showcase their products at the exhibition, which will be opened at Cairo's International Exhibitions Centre. The latest state-of-the-art defence and security related products would be on display at the three-day fair, the first of its kind to be held in Egypt and Africa. The EDEX 2018 fair, which would be organised by the world renowned Clarion International Foundation that has a rich experience in holding military exhibitions all over the world. The event would be a major meeting venue between foreign arms manufacturers and their Egyptian and regional counterparts, he said, expecting that more than 10,000 persons would be visiting the EDEX 2018, which would also include a host of seminars on latest military industries and warfare.
