CAIRO, April 2,2018 - Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel Ati , met on Monday the head of the Egyptian delegation to the 8th World Water Forum (WWF), Alaa Abdel Moteleb, to review a report on the delegation's participation. The eighth round of the WWF, which was the world's biggest water-related event, took place in Brazil during the period March 18-23. According to the report, Egypt's delegation effectively participated in the extraordinary meetings of the General Assembly of the World Water Council (WWC) , the wording of the forum's ministerial declaration as well as the 'round-table' discussions of the ministerial session on climate change. During the forum, the Egyptian delegation presented a multitude of proposals addressing a number of key water issues, including the challenges facing the water sector in Egypt. The delegation also highlighted the role of scientific research in facing diverse domestic water challenges such as floods and global challenges including the effects of climate change. In further efforts, the delegation highlighted the development plans of the River Nile's upstream states as well as the importance of transboundary water co-operation. The delegation also presented the impact of water scarcity on social and economic conditions besides underlining the paramount importance of reusing waste water and rationalizing water. It is worth mentioning that the forum dealt with six main topics and around 32 minor topics with the participation of 110 countries including Egypt. Twenty presidents took part in the forum. "Sharing Water" was the forum's main theme which aims to further enhance transboundary water co-operation and trigger action on critical water issues at all levels.
