Red-handed

Suspected of rape: A man suspected of raping a schoolgirl in Alexandria is helping detectives with their inquiries.
The 38-year-old suspect, a customs official, lives in the Montazah district of Alex, very near his victim.
The official lured the 15-year-old girl to an empty flat near where they both live and it was there that the offence occurred. The victim told her father, a worker called Mohamed Ibrahim, what had happened and he went to the police.
Kuwaiti tragedy: An Egyptian woman and her baby son died when they fell from the fourth floor down a lift shaft in a block of flats in el-Gabaria, Kuwait. A spokesman for the local emergency services said that the woman was 30 years old and the boy only a month old.
The lift in the block of flats where the woman lived had broken down and it was being repaired when the tragedy happened. The woman didn't know about this. If only someone had put a little notice on the door of the lift on each floor, explaining the problem.
The little boy's twin brother survived.
Their mother's friend, the lady who lives next door, was carrying the other baby for her. She was about to follow her into the lift with the second boy, when she watched in horror as her friend and her other son plunged down the empty shaft.
Cousin killer: The marriage of two paternal cousins went awry in Ezbet Aziz Bahri near Kafr el-Dawar. When Mohamed Soleiman married his paternal cousin, Abeer, everything looked rosy, until, that is, they started arguing and Abeer went home to her mum and dad.
She stayed with them for several months, until her relatives and friends managed to persuade her to go back to Mohamed.
When she returned to her husband, the first thing she told him was that she was pregnant with their first child, a boy. Mohamed asked when this happened and she said that it was when they were first married.
But Mohamed didn't believe Abeer. They went for a long walk in the fields that evening and he strangled her there.
He went to the police and took them to her body. Mohamed was arrested and has been sent down for three years by Damanhour Criminal Court. Security shock: Detectives are probing the suspicious death of a man whose body was found in a bakery in the Arsal
district of el-Ismailia. He'd been fatally
stabbed. Police established the victim's identity when a 29-year-old woman called I'tidal reported her husband missing from home.
Detectives showed her a photo of the deceased and I'tidal identified him as her husband, Mohamed (41), who worked in a sensitive post in the military or security services in el-Ismailia governorate. Mohamed often worked away from home, but, when he was away for longer than usual, I'tidal went to the police.
Some progress has already been made in the case: a taxi driver told officers that he gave a lift to Mohamed, a young man and a young woman on the night he must have died, dropping them off near the bakery.
