NEW DELHI, March 23, 2018 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described President Abdel Fattah El Sisi as a great leader who managed to drive his country through its turmoil to reach safe shores at the end. Premier Modi said Egypt was a friendly country to India and that the two states have an extended history of friendship and good relations. Mr. Modi said at a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in New Delhi that he had hoped that work being done by the Egyptian President now would bring more prosperity to Egypt. Shoukry handed the Indian Premier a message from President Sisi in which he highlights Egypt's keenness on strengthening relations with India in all domains, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid said. He added that talks between the Egyptian Foreign Minister and the Indian Prime Minister focused on positive developments in Egyptian-Indian relations in the past three years. Shoukry told Modi that Egypt looked forward to receiving him sometime in the future. Modi, meanwhile, congratulated Shoukry on the success of the meeting of the Joint Egyptian-Indian Committee, Abu Zeid said. He added that the Indian Prime Minister also said he looked forward to more cooperation with Egypt in the fields of investment, technology, training and the fight against terrorism. Shoukry, for his part, said Egypt wanted to coordinate with India in the fight against terrorism and at international forums, Abu Zeid said. He also said Cairo hoped to enhance economic and trade cooperation as well as cultural cooperation with New Delhi, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman said.
