CAIR, March 21, 2018 - The Cairo Criminal Court yesterday sentenced 24 terrorists to long prison terms, including life sentence for nine defendants, judicial sources said. The terrorists are accused of joining the armed "categorised squads", affiliated to the banned Muslim Brotherhood group, that launched many terrorist acts against state institutions, the sources added. Nine fugitive terrorists were sentenced to life while 13 others were sentenced to 10 years in prison. Two other minors were handed three-year prison terms. The Public Prosecution said that the terrorists committed crimes during the period from 2014 until March 2016. The crimes aimed at violating the constitution, attacking personal freedom of citizens and harming the national unity and social peace. They are also accused of providing fire arms, ammunition, money and information to the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist group. In a related development, the Public Prosecutor, Nabil Sadek, referred 30 terrorists to the Higher State Security Criminal Court on charges of committing terrorist acts. The terrorists are accused of forming a terrorist group that have adopted the extremist ideology of the Islamic State (Daesh) terrorist group and provided it with money, weapons and explosives as well as information and safe havens to hide their members. They also perpetrate crimes that target churches, Christians and vital state institutions in addition to receiving military training at Daesh camps in Syria and Libya.
