President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday inspected the progress of works in the Rod El-Farag Axis and the Sphinx International Airport -- two of the major developmental ventures being carried out in Cairo. President Sisi inspection tour on Monday was meant to follow up the implementation of the projects that aim at pushing forward the state drive for the realisation of development, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said. The Rod el-Farag Axis project has been planned to link Greater Cairo's northern and eastern districts with its western sections and is being carried out within the framework of the national plan for upgrading the network of roads and bridges. The axis project would ease traffic congestion in the capital and would reduce the time of daily commutes, spokesman Radi said in a statement following the presidential inspection tour. As much as 85 percent of the second stage of the Axis project has been completed so far, he added. It involves the construction of a bridge over the River Nile east of the Warraq Island. The bridge is considered the world's widest hanging bridge, spokesman Radi said, noting that this bridge has been exclusively designed and is being implemented by Egyptian companies. The President also inspected Sphinx International Airport, located west of Cairo. The facility has been designed to serve 300 passengers per hour and aims at easing the pressure on Cairo International Airport by serving embarking and disembarking passengers from Greater Cairo's western districts like Sheikh Zayed and 6th of October and some governorates, including Beni Sueif and Fayyoum. During the visit to the sites of the newly developmental ventures, President Sisi lauded efforts exerted by the staff in charge of implementing the projects that are now being carried out in accordance with the world's most up-to-date standards. President Sisi stressed the importance of abidance by the set timetable for accomplishing the projects. The President also asserted that such projects are extremely important within the framework of state efforts to push forward the developmental drive and accomplish the national plan to upgrade road and bridge networks.
