Cairo, March 8, 2018 - At least 297,000 citizens have undergone medical checks as part of a nationwide campaign launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to free Egypt of hepatitis C by 2020, a senior Health Ministry official said on Thursday. Yehyia el-Shazly, the deputy head of the National Committee for Control of Viral Hepatitis (NCCVH), said that the campaign covers all the 27 governorates Minister of Health Ahmed Emad el-Deen said that there are 13,000 citizens who have been checked and proved to be infected with hepatitis C in Egypt, 4,000 of whom have been treated. Minister Emad el-Deen added that all citizens aged between 18 and 59 years old would be medically checked by 2020.
