Woliata Dicha defeat Zamalek 2-1 in CAF Confederation Cup

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, March 7, 2018 - Wolaitta Dicha of Ethiopia defeated the five-time winners of the CAF Champions League, Zamalek of Egypt, 2-1 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday in Hawassa, about 270 kilometers south of capital Addis Ababa.
This is the second time that Zamalek is taking part in the second-tier continental club championship. Their maiden appearance was in 2015, where they reached the semis before bowing to eventual winners Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia 5-4 on aggregate.
A sublime volley from Bezabeh Meleyo gave Dicha an early lead but Zamalek winger Emad Fathi pounced on a defensive mistake to level the score seven minutes before the break.
Yared Dawit scored a precious winner for Dicha after finishing off a breakaway with 12 minutes remaining to give the hosts a win over Zamalek.
The Cairo giants still have a good chance to progress when they host Dicha in the second leg in Suez on 18 March.
