Egypt, Sweden's Linxon discuss renewable energy development
Published in Daily News Egypt on 14 - 12 - 2025

Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, met with Swedish Ambassador to Egypt Dag Jolin Danfelt and a delegation from Swedish company Linxon, led by CEO Stefan Reisacher, at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
The meeting focused on potential cooperation, partnerships and investment in renewable energy, smart grids, and integrated substation solutions to enhance grid stability and support the integration of clean energy.
Discussions, attended by Deputy Minister Sabah Meshali and Chairperson of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company Mona Rizk, addressed ways to leverage modern technologies and expertise to strengthen Egypt's electricity system. Key topics included upgrading and modernising the unified grid, enhancing its capacity to accommodate renewable energy, connecting wind and solar power plants to main transmission and distribution networks, and implementing energy storage projects to support grid stability and maximise the contribution of clean energy.
Esmat stressed that adopting advanced technologies is essential for achieving high efficiency and quality within Egypt's energy transition plan. He noted that grid modernisation is a continuous process aimed at improving performance, ensuring reliable power supply, and strengthening the unified network to integrate renewable energy more effectively.
The minister highlighted the ministry's commitment to encouraging both local and international private sector participation in transitioning from traditional networks to smart grids, representing a major advancement for the future of electricity transmission and distribution in Egypt.
Esmat also emphasised the important role of Swedish companies in supporting multiple energy projects and reaffirmed Egypt's targets to increase the renewables share in the energy mix to 42% by 2030 and 65% by 2040, while creating favorable investment conditions to attract private sector involvement in clean energy initiatives.
The meeting reflected the shared commitment of Egypt and Sweden to enhancing the country's energy infrastructure, promoting sustainable development, and supporting the transition to a cleaner and more efficient energy system.
