Israel continues airstrikes on Gaza as ceasefire talks stall
Published in Daily News Egypt on 25 - 03 - 2025

As Israel's renewed military operations in Gaza enter their eighth day, Israeli occupation army has maintained intense airstrikes and artillery shelling across the enclave while enforcing a strict blockade and closing all border crossings, halting humanitarian aid convoys.
On Tuesday, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported that 62 Palestinians had been killed and 296 injured in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of casualties since the escalation began to 792 dead and 1,663 wounded.
Efforts to negotiate a ceasefire before Eid al-Fitr have stalled, with Egyptian sources revealing that an Israeli security delegation left Cairo on Saturday without reaching an agreement. The sources added that mediators from Egypt and Qatar informed Hamas leadership that the negotiations had reached a "dead end," despite Hamas' willingness to discuss a proposal from Egypt. This proposal suggested releasing some Israeli captives in exchange for a "humanitarian" ceasefire. However, Israel rejected all attempts to reach a resolution.
Israeli media reported that the Israeli army is planning to intensify its attacks on Gaza, including increasing ground operations, claiming that current military pressure has not forced Hamas to release Israeli captives.
In response to recent rumors, Jordanian government spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani denied reports that Jordan had proposed evacuating Palestinians from Gaza. Speaking at a press conference, Al-Momani called the claim "false and baseless," reaffirming Jordan's policy of ensuring Palestinians remain in their land.
Over the past two days, rumors circulated suggesting Jordan had proposed relocating 3,000 Hamas members from Gaza in exchange for halting Israel's offensive on the enclave.
Hamas, in response to the ongoing attacks, called for a "general mobilization" this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to defend Gaza, Jerusalem, and Al-Aqsa Mosque. In a statement, Hamas condemned Israel's actions in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, accusing the Israeli occupation of committing massacres with full American support and international indifference.
The group urged worldwide protests and solidarity events, calling the last days of Ramadan "days of comprehensive mobilization." Hamas also called for the use of all available means to stop the ongoing violence, blockade, and starvation, while supporting Gaza, Jerusalem, and Al-Aqsa against Israeli aggression.
