Abdelatty, Kallas discuss Gaza reconstruction, Syrian stability
Published in Daily News Egypt on 10 - 03 - 2025

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Monday, to discuss recent regional developments, according to an official statement.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Abdelatty briefed Kallas on the outcomes of the recent extraordinary Arab Summit. A key topic was the Arab plan for early recovery, reconstruction, and development in Gaza. Abdelatty noted that the plan had received support from Arab and Islamic countries.
He welcomed Kallas's statement supporting the plan and emphasised the importance of intensifying international efforts to ensure its implementation.
The Foreign Minister also discussed Egypt's efforts to host a conference for reconstruction in Gaza, in collaboration with the Palestinian government and the United Nations. Abdelatty expressed his hope that the European Union would continue to provide humanitarian support to address the difficult conditions in the region.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of all parties implementing all phases of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Furthermore, he emphasised the need to find a political path forward for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, stating that the two-state solution remains the only way to achieve lasting peace in the region.
The spokesperson added that the call included a discussion on developments in Syria. Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's support for the Syrian state, its national institutions, and its stability. He made particular note of the recent clashes in some Syrian governorates.
He clarified the need for the transitional political process to include all segments of the Syrian people without exclusion. This, he stated, would allow Syria to become a source of stability in the region and successfully navigate the transitional phase.
