Published in Daily News Egypt on 22 - 02 - 2025

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations and the latest developments in the Middle East.
According to a statement from Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Tamim Khallaf, both ministers emphasized their commitment to advancing the strategic partnership between Egypt and China. They expressed their intention to hold a joint governmental committee meeting, led by the foreign ministers of both countries, in line with the outcomes of the strategic dialogue held in Beijing in December 2024. The ministers also discussed plans to boost economic and trade relations, including increasing Chinese investments in Egypt to foster mutual economic growth.
The conversation also covered critical regional issues, with both ministers reviewing the evolving situations in Sudan, Gaza, and Syria. Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt's ongoing efforts to consolidate the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, stressing the importance of implementing its provisions in stages. He highlighted Egypt's plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, which aims to ensure Palestinians remain on their land during the process, while also noting the widespread Arab support for this initiative. Minister Wang Yi agreed with Egypt's approach and underscored China's support.
Regarding Sudan, Minister Abdelatty reiterated the importance of respecting Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He called for a ceasefire in Sudan to help facilitate a comprehensive political process that would enable Sudanese forces to restore security and stability.
The two ministers also discussed the situation in Syria, agreeing on the necessity of launching an inclusive political process that reflects the interests of all Syrian people. They emphasized the need for Syria to become a stable force in the region, contributing to the fight against terrorism and extremism.
This call highlights the growing collaboration between Egypt and China, as both nations continue to navigate complex regional challenges while striving to strengthen their strategic partnership.
