Egypt's Health Minister inspects injured, sick Palestinians at Rafah crossing
Published in Daily News Egypt on 15 - 02 - 2025

Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, visited the Rafah land crossing to assess the health status of injured and sick Palestinians arriving from Gaza. He was accompanied by Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, and Khaled Megawer, Governor of North Sinai.
The visit also included Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States; Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Head of the League's Social Affairs Sector; a delegation from the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States; a European Union delegation; and officials from the Health and Social Solidarity ministries.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that the minister personally engaged with patients to ensure they were receiving comprehensive medical support from the moment they arrived at the crossing to their transfer to Egyptian hospitals for specialized care.
The minister directed the immediate provision of essential medical supplies, including treatments for heart and bone diseases, prosthetic limbs for amputees, and comprehensive care for cancer patients.
Abdel Ghaffar explained that patients are triaged upon arrival at the Rafah crossing and classified based on medical urgency before being transferred to specialized hospitals. Mobile clinics equipped with X-ray and ultrasound devices have been deployed to enable rapid assessment and treatment.
Additionally, a psychological support team is on-site to assist patients suffering from trauma due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The minister also reviewed preventive healthcare measures for Palestinian arrivals. He confirmed the availability of mandatory vaccinations for children aged one day to 12 years, including polio, measles, and German measles vaccines. All vaccinations are electronically recorded, ensuring proper documentation and follow-up care.
Through these efforts, Egypt continues to provide critical medical assistance to Palestinian patients, reaffirming its commitment to humanitarian support amid the ongoing crisis.
