Egyptian Education Minister meets Greek counterpart to discuss educational collaboration

Egypt's Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel-Latif, met on Monday with Greece's Minister for Education, Religious Affairs, and Sport, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, and the Greek Ambassador to Egypt, Νikolaos Papageorgiou, to discuss potential collaboration in the development of pre-university education.
Abdel-Latif emphasized the growing importance of digital learning and artificial intelligence (AI) in preparing students with the skills required for the 21st century. He outlined the Ministry's ongoing efforts to equip schools with advanced digital technologies, integrate AI into classrooms, and refine assessment methods. As part of these initiatives, the Ministry is developing AI-linked educational platforms designed to meet future demands for programming and computer science skills and is providing teachers with training on using modern technologies effectively.
On the topic of technical education, Abdel-Latif reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing technical education as a means to drive the Egyptian economy and develop a competitive workforce. He highlighted the progress made in improving the image of technical education through partnerships with industrial stakeholders and the introduction of new specializations. Abdel-Latif also pointed to the rapid expansion of applied technology schools, which have grown from three schools in 2018 to 82 today.
The Minister further discussed the establishment of centers of excellence and advanced models of technical education schools, developed through partnerships with companies and economic sector entities. These schools are equipped with state-of-the-art technology to ensure students acquire essential job skills, thereby raising the standard of technical education.
Pierrakakis expressed his enthusiasm about the visit and Greece's desire to deepen cooperation with Egypt, particularly in integrating digital technology and AI into education. He also outlined Greece's ambitions to advance its technical education system, focusing on capacity building, enhancing technical skills, attracting more students to technical education, and promoting public-private partnerships.
The meeting covered various educational programs in both countries, efforts to modernize education, the integration of new technologies, and the exchange of expertise in the development of technical education and applied technology schools, focusing on areas of shared interest.
