5 segments of tourists are targeted by campaigns to promote Egypt abroad: Issa
Published in Daily News Egypt on 20 - 12 - 2022

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa said that a new website, called "Experience Egypt", will be launched in January 2023 for tourism promotion, as the ministry is working on developing its technological services.
His remarks came during his first press conference since his appointment earlier this year. The minister said that the promotional campaigns that are being implemented by the ETBP focus on 5 segments of potential tourists, namely, family tourism, cultural, relaxation, adventure, and the segment that combines entertainment and culture in 12 countries.
The minister explained that a marketing study was conducted in many countries of the world, which resulted in the desire of about 272 million tourists in 12 countries to visit Egypt, representing the main markets exporting tourism movement.
The minister pointed out that the "smart "investor, is the one who directs his investments towards the tourism patterns that meet the needs of these segments.
Issa indicated that there are 3 axes or priorities that his ministry will work on during the coming period in order to be able to achieve the target of reaching 30 million tourists annually and revenues of $30bn by 2030. These three axes are increasing the number of airline seats to Egypt by 3 times, improving the tourism experience, and enhancing the tourism investment climate.
Issa said that in order to reach the targeted 30 million tourists annually, the plan also requires increasing the hotel capacity from 211,000 rooms to 500,000 rooms with an annual increase ranging from 25 to 30%, compared to only 1% annual increase since 2018 until now.
Moreover, the Minister said that there is a deficit in 3-star hotels and hotel apartments in the governorates of Luxor, Aswan and Qena, explaining that the ministry is working to improve the investment climate in the tourism sector and raise the number of tourist rooms in Egypt.
Issa praised the infrastructure that the Egyptian state had built during the last period, stressing that the development that Egypt witnessed in the infrastructure will contribute greatly to the development of the tourism sector and increase investment in the Egyptian tourism sector.
The minister stressed that there is great cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Ministry of Civil Aviation to promote the tourism sector, explaining that Egypt has 5 very important airports, stressing that these airports play a major role in the influx of tourists to visit Egypt.
The press conference was attended by Youmna Al-Bahar, Assistant Minister of Tourism; Ahmed Abied, Assistant Minister of Tourism; Shaaban Abdel-Gawad, Head of the Recovered Antiquities Department; Ayman Ashmawy, Head of the Egyptian Antiquities Department; Moamen Othman, Head of the Museums Sector at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities; and Ahmed Rahima, Assistant Minister of Tourism for Human Resources.
