Egypt's Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, signed a €4m grant agreement with the European Union on Sunday, to support the country's efforts in environmental protection. Fouad said that this grant is part of the funding allocated to the third phase of the Industrial Pollution Control Program (EPAP), whose budget is €145m, and is implemented in partnership with the EU, the European Investment Bank, the French Development Agency, and the KfW development bank. She explained that the EPAP is one of the most important and largest initiatives of the Ministry of Environment to help the Egyptian industry improve performance and reach compliance with environmental laws and regulations, in addition to reducing energy and resource consumption in a way that supports achieving sustainable development. The minister noted that the programme is currently preparing and implementing environmental compliance and energy efficiency projects at a financial cost of more than €200m, explaining that the programme was designed on the basis of providing financial incentives to companies to enable the industry to transition to a green economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate the effects of climate change. The programme also provides innovative solutions to the industry that enables it to achieve this transformation.
