President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi flew Tuesday evening to the Serbian capital Belgrade for the first time, following an important visit to Germany, in preparation for the upcoming UN climate summit (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The Belgrade visit will witness bilateral talks between Al-Sisi and his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic, and the speaker of the Serbian parliament, to discuss mechanisms for strengthening political and economic relations between the two sides, as well as ways to boost cooperation at the International and regional levels.
Al-Sisi is also expected to deliver a speech at the University of Belgrade, in which he will review the Egyptian policy towards regional and international issues.
President Al-Sisi concluded his visit to Germany earlier Tuesday with a meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalina Baerbock in Berlin. Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt's keenness to strengthen and deepen the long-standing strategic partnership with Germany, which represents an important pillar for maintaining security and stability in the Middle East.
Both discussed a number of regional and international topics of common interest, especially the developments of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and its negative economic repercussions at the global level, in addition to the coronavirus pandemic, and the climate change, in light of the Petersberg Dialogue and Egypt's hosting of COP27 in November.
Bassam Radi, the spokesperson of the Egyptian presidency, said that Al-Sisi expressed his aspiration to maximize coordination and consultation with Germany on various political, security, and economic topics of mutual interest.
Al-Sisi and Baerbock also touched upon the developments of the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Libya, Syria, and Yemen. President Al-Sisi stressed that there is no way to resolve these crises except through political solutions, in a way that preserves the territorial integrity of countries and their national institutions.
For her part, Baerbock welcomed President Al-Sisi's visit to Berlin, stressing that it will contribute to enhancing the relations between the two countries in a constructive and positive way, especially in light of the German government's commitment to strengthen the frameworks of joint cooperation with Egypt in various fields.
She praised the president's efforts to combat terrorism and extremist ideology, and achieve comprehensive and sustainable development in Egypt and the entire region, expressing her country's support for those efforts.
The German minister expressed her country's aspiration to intensify joint coordination with Egypt on Middle East issues.
