Irrigation Minister addresses Water and Climate Coalition on Egypt's environmental efforts
Minister says Egypt implements many projects in field of climate adaptation
Published in Daily News Egypt on 06 - 06 - 2022

Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdel Aty, participated on Sunday in the meeting of the Committee of Leaders of the Water and Climate Coalition, which was held within the Dushanbe Water Conference in Tajikistan.
In his speech, Abdel Aty highlighted the great interest that Egypt attaches to the International Coalition for Water and Climate, and working to mobilize international support for the coalition in all international conferences such as 9th World Water Forum, which was held in Senegal in March, the Climate Week in the Middle East and North Africa, which was held in the UAE in March, the 5th Cairo Water Week, to be held in October, and the COP27, which Egypt will host also in November.
He explained that Egypt supports all the outputs issued by the previous meetings of the coalition by adopting the action plan that was developed at the last meeting of the coalition in March, and working to provide the necessary support for the development and application of early warning systems in the field of water and climate at the regional level.
The aim of the system is to increase the readiness of countries in the region to deal with extreme climate phenomena such as torrential rain and drought, and to provide protection for citizens from the dangers of climate change.
Abdel Aty pointed out that climate change is one of the most important issues facing the world at the present time, given the clear and increasing effects of climate change on water resources and food production around the world and causing sea level rise, which requires intensifying national efforts in all countries in the field of adaptation, and providing the necessary funding to implement projects that contribute to achieving this goal.
He noted that Egypt has already implemented many projects in this field, such as the protection projects against the dangers of torrential rains, which aim to protect citizens and facilities from the destructive effects of torrential rains, and the beach protection projects, which aim to adapt to sea level rise.
