Egypt's Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, headed to Stockholm, Sweden, to participate in the high-level segment of the Basel and Rotterdam Parties Conference and the Stockholm +50 conference, which will take place from 2 to 3 June.
The Minister of Environment stressed the importance of the participation of all the parties of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions in the conference which will be held under the theme "Global Agreements for a Healthy Planet: Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste".
In the conference, a high-level segment will address how the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions contribute to addressing the triple planet crisis; climate Change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
Fouad added that the aim of the high-level segment is to provide an interactive platform for ministers to exchange experiences and push the political leadership to renew their commitment to implementing the agreements, in addition to increasing political awareness and support for the agreements, as well as promoting dialogue between ministers and other high-level representatives.
During these important events, Fouad will chair the first axis session, about pollution, which discusses the opportunities to address the three global environmental crises through the implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm agreements.
The Minister of Environment also will participate in the second axis, which is the life cycle approach, through which it discusses the opportunities offered by the implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm agreements to move towards managing the life cycle of chemicals and waste.
Additionally, the minister will participate in the third axis, which tackles the means of implementation and opportunities to enhance the implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm agreements by promoting new technologies and a clean and innovative approach to finance.
Moreover, Fouad explained that participation in these events is of great political importance, in light of Egypt's presidency of the COP27, in order to strengthen the Egyptian position on issues related to climate change.
