Egyptian delegation visits Stockholm to boost cooperation in healthcare innovation
Published in Daily News Egypt on 12 - 12 - 2021

The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) and the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply and Technology Management (UPA) are visiting Stockholm this week to meet with Swedish counterparts for knowledge sharing and exploring collaboration opportunities in healthcare, health technology assessment, and pharmaceuticals.
During the visit, the Egyptian authorities will present their mandates and share information about how Swedish life sciences companies can work with Egypt. The authorities will also present the first Africa Health ExCon organized in Egypt in 2022 to connect world healthcare buyers and suppliers with African clients and decision-makers. The Egyptian delegation includes six Egyptian health-tech entrepreneurs who will visit innovation hubs in Sweden for inspiration and potential partnerships.
"Sweden has successfully built a strong and resilient healthcare system, where digitalization, research and knowledge exchange were best employed. Egypt is a key partner for us, and we want to support the ongoing healthcare reforms in the country, which we believe will turn a new page when it comes to healthcare practices, equipment and services in the whole African continent," said the Swedish Ambassador in Cairo, Håkan Emsgård.
The visit is arranged in collaboration with Swecare Foundation (a platform where academia, public and private sectors join forces toward enhancing healthcare and life science solutions). It will entail meetings with the Swedish Ministries for Health and Social Affairs, Finance, and Foreign Affairs. In addition to that, the participants will visit the Swedish Trade and Invest Council (Business Sweden) to meet with life sciences companies interested in the Egyptian market and Sweden's single largest center of medical academic research Karolinska Institute.
The visit to Sweden is one of many steps in a long-term exchange between Egypt and Sweden in the healthcare sector. Last year, the Swedish Trade and Invest Council launched and presented a study on Egypt's healthcare trends and investment opportunities to more than 40 Swedish companies. Sweden is also sponsoring a health innovation program in Egypt focusing on utilizing technology among other disciplines to create patient-centric solutions.
