Egypt and Sweden cooperate to promote healthcare
A two-day mission by an Egyptian delegation probes how to improve cooperation between Egypt and Sweden in the fields of healthcare provision and innovation
Published in Ahram Online on 29 - 05 - 2014

A delegation of eight representatives from the health sector in Egypt were invited to Sweden 26 and 27 May to discuss innovative solutions to problems facing healthcare in Egypt, to strengthen trade relationships, and discuss further business opportunities in the sector.
The Embassy of Sweden in Cairo along with the Business Sweden regional office in the Middle East and North Africa undertook this initiative aiming to achieve three main targets: to exchange expertise in the field of healthcare; propose suggestions and solutions to some of the main healthcare problems in the country; and pave the way to further business cooperation between the two sides.
The delegation started by visiting Karolinska University Hospital, which is one of the best health facilities in Sweden and where they were introduced to high quality care grounded in innovation and collaboration.
Then followed study visits at Karolinska University Hospital involving some of Sweden's leading healthcare providers. The delegation was also scheduled to visit Stockholm County Council which is responsible for the public healthcare system.
The Swedish healthcare system is considered one of the best in the world. It main characteristic is the decentralisation of services, where residents in every county are provided with quality healthcare by the county council. At the same time, efforts are made to promote good health for the whole population.
The final destination was the Swedish Council on Technology Assessment in Healthcare, which is an independent national authority carrying the task of assessing healthcare interventions from a medical, ethical, social, and economic perspective.
