Egypt, Russia discuss investment in cybersecurity

Amr Talaat, Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, received on Tuesday Maxim Parshin, the Russian Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Media, who is visiting Cairo at the head of a trade mission in the fields of communications technologies, digital solutions, and cybersecurity.
The meeting dealt with investment opportunities in the Egyptian ICT sector, and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in relevant fields, especially building digital capabilities and providing technological solutions.
Talaat explained the competitive advantages of the Egyptian ICT sector and the various opportunities it enjoys in light of the continuous growth witnessed by the sector and the implementation of a huge number of projects to build a digital Egypt. He expressed his aspiration for more cooperation with the Russian side to attract Russian companies to invest in the Egyptian market.
He also highlighted the state's interest in investing in developing the digital capabilities of young cadres to meet the requirements of the local and global labor market. He explained the hierarchical model adopted by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to build capacities to reach all segments of society and the various disciplines in the field of ICT, pointing out that the Digital Egypt Builders initiative, which grants professional masters in the fields of advanced technologies such as: artificial intelligence, data science, robotics, cybersecurity and digital arts, is being implemented in cooperation with major universities specialized in global communications and information technology.
The Minister of Communications expressed his hopes for cooperation with high-ranking Russian universities of information and communications technology, such as Lomonosov Moscow State University.
For his part, Maxim Parshin, Russian Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Media, explained that Russia has 20 years of experience in the field of digitization, and it occupies the first place in the world in the field of cybersecurity, and there are about 50,000 Russian companies working in the field of information technology.
Parshin stressed that Egypt is a strategic partner. He praised Egypt's important initiatives and projects for digital transformation, as well as major telecom projects in Africa, pointing out Russia's readiness to cooperate and provide its expertise in areas of common interest, which include providing technological solutions, working to localize Russian technology in Egypt and producing Egyptian products with Russian technology. Other areas of common interest also include training and capacity-building through scholarships from Russian universities and companies, in addition to co-financing projects, as well as cooperation in regulatory and legislative areas related to communications and information technology.
