Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi directed the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Enany to utilise the planned reopening ceremony of the Road of Rams (ram-headed Sphinxes Avenue) in Luxor to internationally promote the country's soft power and ancient civilisation.
This came during a Saturday meeting to follow up on the ministry's projects, according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
During the meeting, El-Enany presented the position of the tourism movement during the current period, and the measures taken by the government to promote Egyptian tourist destinations to utilise the unique and diverse elements that Egypt possesses, especially with the start of the winter tourism season.
He also showcased the coordination among concerned ministries and relevant authorities to ensure the recovery of the tourism sector from the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic. This includes the recent launch of the direct flight line between the cities of Luxor and Sharm El Sheikh, which aims to link archaeological tourism with the beach one.
The president directed El-Anany to increase the number of medical crews at the airports of Egyptian tourist cities to conduct COVID-19 tests for tourists. Al-Sisi also directed continuing coordination and integration among all concerned agencies nationwide to ensure the smooth movement of tourism and provision of best services to tourists in cooperation with the private sector.
Moreover, Egypt's Minister of Tourism also reviewed the executive position of a number of the imminent openings of archaeological projects, and the preparation for organising the major promotional event for Luxor Governorate, within the framework of the celebration of the reopening of the "Road of Rams".
The celebration comes after implementing several projects to develop the tourism infrastructure in the governorate, such as visual identity, developing the corniche, and raising the efficiency of facilities and buildings.
Al-Sisi indicated that the celebration should be a continuation of the approach of global events organised by the state to promote Egypt's soft power and ancient civilisation, most notably the Royal Mummies Parade, in a way that reflects the richness of Luxor as an integrated international tourist destination.
El-Enany also briefed the president on his ministry's efforts to develop its resources, and achieve comprehensive administrative modernisation through the adoption of digital transformation programs.
This includes the digitisation of tourism and hotel establishments licenses and the services provided to visitors and tourists.
