Egypt to receive enough raw materials for producing 70 million doses of Sinovac vaccine WHO hails Egyptian efforts in eliminating Hepatitis C, says Minister Hala Zayed
Egypt's Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced, on Thursday, that the country will start receiving raw materials for manufacturing the Sinovac vaccine as of August until December. The contracted amounts of raw materials are enough to manufacture 70.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine. She said that Egypt will also receive 20 million doses of Sputnik vaccine, 20 million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine, 35.6 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, and 2.4 million doses of "Pfizer" vaccine, during the same period, which will be enough to vaccinate 83.7 million citizens. During a cabinet meeting, Zayed reviewed a report on the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Egypt. She added that there is a cooperation protocol with the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to provide the cold chain necessary to save vaccine doses. She continued that it was agreed that Egypt would receive 63 vaccine storage refrigerators free of charge with a capacity of about 619,000 doses. The Minister explained that 125 offices were opened all over the country in order to record data and print automated certificates with QR code, in order to provide vaccines for travelers, noting that reservations are made through an electronic website. Meanwhile, the Minister said the World Health Organization (WHO) had appreciated the Egyptian efforts in dealing with this Hepatitis C virus, asserting that Egypt is a successful model for the ability to eliminate the virus. The WHO said that Egypt has been recognized regionally and globally as a leading country in eliminating the virus.
