The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of Egypt's Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, launched on Sunday the activities of the third Women Leaders Qualification Program.
The launch comes in cooperation with the National Council for Women (NCW), and covers 150 young women leaders in the governorates of Gharbeya, Daqahleya, Beheira, Damietta, and Greater Cairo.
Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at the NIGSD, said that the Women Leaders Qualification Program comes as part of the Egyptian leadership's interest in empowering women.
It aims to enrich the technical and specialised skills of promising women leaders in the Egyptian government, and prepare them to aspire to their leadership responsibilities in political life and the state's administrative apparatus.
It emphasises their rights and their vital role in the development of society in general, with the programme also aiming to build women's capabilities in an effort to increase the share of their representation in leadership executive positions.
El-Said highlighted the institute's role in developing human capabilities, providing training, advice, and creative research services, whilst supporting the dissemination of managerial knowledge, and awareness.
The institute aims to help increase knowledge and develop human capabilities, enhance individual competence and institutional excellence, and efficiently and effectively contribute to the development and training of government sector employees.
For her part, NIGSD Executive Director Sherifa Sherif said that the training programme will help qualify women leaders in several job-related skills. These include management skills and tests, personality traits and project work, and other skills needed for leadership proficiency.
Sherif noted that there will be about 150 beneficiaries in the third batch of the training programme, with the training period to be 20 training days. This will take place over 110 training hours, two days per week, and divided into 15 training days inside each governorate, amounting to 90 training hours, in addition to five online training days of 20 training hours in total.
The first and second batches of the training programme were implemented in the governorates of Greater Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said, Minya, and Luxor.
