Egypt's Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat has met with Alexander Soliga, Director of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) office in Cairo to discuss areas of joint cooperation.
The meeting took place as part of Egypt's development priorities, and the position of ongoing projects implemented with government agencies.
The talks dealt with the status of ongoing projects between GIZ and the concerned authorities in Egypt. A total of 14 projects worth €117.8m are being implemented across the country in: migration; energy efficiency and renewable energy; sanitation; the labour market; technical education; vocational training; urban development; and administrative reform.
The talks also touched upon the international partnerships that have recently been implemented, including the Egyptian German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration.
The centre, inaugurated in November 2020, was funded by a grant of €2m for the benefit of the Ministry for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Abroad.
Among the most prominent projects implemented in partnership between the concerned authorities and ministries and GIZ was the National Program for Solid Waste Management. This received an amount of €6m for the benefit of the Ministry of Environment.
The programme aims to restructure the waste sector at the national level and implement an integrated system for solid waste management in four selected governorates, namely Kafr El-Sheikh, Gharbeya, Qena, and Assiut.
The size of the development cooperation portfolio with Germany is €1.7bn aimed at several sectors, with the aim of achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs).
