Egypt allocates EGP 93.5bn to healthcare support in FY 2020/21: Planning Minister
COVID-19 related projects will see investments amounting to EGP 8.7m in FY 2020/21

The Egyptian government has allocated EGP 93.5bn to the healthcare sector in the fiscal year (FY) 2020/21 budget, according to Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said.
It reflects a 28% increase on the healthcare allocations in FY 2019/20.
El-Said said the FY 2020/21 investment plan includes government investments of EGP 21.1bn directed to the healthcare sector. This represents 8% of the total government investments and a rise of 72% from FY 2019/20.
In a statement on Wednesday, El-Said added that Cairo accounts for the largest share of new government investments in healthcare, about 33%, followed by Daqahleya, Suez, Giza, and Sohag, by 5.2%, 4.9% 4.7%, and 4.5%, respectively.
Upper Egypt governorates acquired 21% of the total government investments directed to the healthcare sector, the minister noted. She pointed out that the country's universal healthcare system initiative includes the development of 79 hospitals and 294 primary healthcare units in 9 of the top priority governorates.
The report explained the programmes and projects related to confronting the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the FY 2020/21 plan will see investments amounting to EGP 8.7m. The plan includes a partial development of the Aswan Fever Hospital, in addition to establishment of the Mansoura University Hospital's fever department with about EGP 8.7m investments.
These projects also include the completion of construction on the Suez Hospital, with investments amounting to EGP 6.1m, along with the development of the Hurghada Fever Hospital, with investments amounting to EGP 4.7m. There will also be development of the Alexandria Fever Hospital, with investments amounting to EGP 4.4m.
