Al-Sisi, Shoukry to meet German FM Heiko Maas to discuss regional updates
Maas' visit demonstrates strength of Egyptian-German relations, says German embassy

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is scheduled to meet with Germany's Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Monday in Cairo during his two-day visit, said the German embassy in Egypt.
Maas will also meet his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry to discuss regional issues, mainly the crises in Libya and Syria, besides Egypt-Germany diplomatic relations, according to the statement.
“Maas' visit demonstrates the importance and strength of Egyptian-German relations. It comes within a series of high-level exchange visits, the latest being by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Egypt in February 2019,” German ambassador to Egypt, Cyrill Nunn, said.
According to the statement, Egypt, as the current chair of the African Union, and Germany, as a member of the United Nations Security Council, bear a major responsibility and have a common interest in achieving peace and security in the region.
Egypt and Germany have strong relations in various fields. The trade exchange between the two countries was estimated at €4.5bn in 2018, and the German-Egyptian developmental cooperation is estimated at €1.6bn, the statement said.
In 2017, Egypt's Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, Sahar Nasr, signed three cooperation agreements valued at €320m with the German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd Muller, and the German Development Bank (KFW).
The three agreements included supporting the Egyptian economic reform programme with €225m, financing projects of €45m, and supporting small scale projects with €50m.
