Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received on Sunday Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, in Cairo. Both discussed ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation and recent updates on the Palestinian cause. Abbas arrived at the capital on Saturday on a three-day official visit to meet the Egyptian President and to take part in a ministerial meeting of the Arab League, state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram reported. Al-Ahram cited the Palestinian ambassador to Cairo, Diab Allouh, as saying that Abbas will meet Al-Sisi to review with him the recent updates in the occupied Palestinian territories. Meanwhile, Abbas reviewed with Al-Sisi the challenges facing their cause, and the demands of establishing an independent state for Palestinians according to 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as tackling the refugee right to return to their lands, the Palestinian Ma'an news agency reported. Both leaders emphasised the significance of continuing coordination between the two countries. For Al-Sisi, he voiced his support to the Palestinian people and to their legitimate rights in establishing an independent state, Ma'an added. The United States administration is expected to reveal the so-called “deal of the century” soon, as it previously stated that it will announce the deal's details after the Israeli parliamentary elections which were held earlier this month. Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, and White House Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt, are the officials responsible for drafting the so-called peace plan which aims to tackle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Samir Ghattas, an expert in Palestinian affairs and director of the Middle East Forum for Strategic Studies told Daily News Egypt in a previous statement that the deal might include renouncing Egyptian lands from Sinai. Ghattas said that the new suggestions could include allocating 1,000 sqkm in South Sinai without renouncing the Egyptian sovereignty and to be a free industrial zone as part of the megacity called Neom. However, Greenblatt on Friday denied that Trump's plan will involve giving up lands from Sinai. “Hearing reports our plan includes the concept that we will give a portion of Sinai (which is Egypt's) to Gaza. False! Please don't believe everything you read,” Greenblatt tweeted.
