Africa anticipates CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup quarter-final draws
Published in Daily News Egypt on 19 - 03 - 2019

African football fans are anticipating the quarter-final draws of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, scheduled to take place at CAF's headquarters in Cairo on Wednesday 20 March, in the presence of qualifying clubs' representatives.
The CAF Champions League's quarter-finalists are Al Ahly SC, Simba SC, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, Horoya AC, TP Mazembe, CS Constantine, Wydad AC, and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Al Ahly will be facing either South Africa's Sundowns, Guinean Horoya, or Algerian Constantine.
The first leg matches of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals will take place on 5, 6 and 7 April, while the second leg matches will be held on 12, 13 and 14 April. The semi-finals will be played at the end of April and early May, given that the first leg of the final will be played between 24-26 May, and the second leg between 31 May and 1 June.
Unlike the CAF Champions League which has seen the usual strong challengers making this season's quarter-final list, the CAF Confederation Cup sees a good mix of not-so familiar names with a chance to become champions.
The CAF Confederation Cup quarters will take us to places such as Omdurman (Sudan), Nairobi (Kenya), Kitwe (Zambia), and of course Morocco and Egypt.
The CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finalists include RS Berkane (Morocco), Hassania Agadir (Morocco), Gor Mahia (Kenya), Al-Hilal (Sudan), Zamalek SC (Egypt), CS Sfaxien (Tunisia), Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia), Nkana FC (Zambia).
Zamalek will be playing either Hassania Agadir, Etoile du Sahel, or Nkana.
This is the first time for Cairo's two giants to qualify to quarter-finals in two different African club competitions in the same season since the application of the group stage system. They previously qualified together twice, but in the same championship.
