Ministry of Education offers free internet cards to first secondary students to reform learning
Aim is to access digital knowledge bank outside schools, students to perform online exams

The Ministry of Education announced that it will provide free internet cards to first secondary students starting from Monday, as part of the ministry's plan to develop the educational process.
The ministry said that it coordinated with communication companies to deliver internet cards to students in schools, without administrative expenses and fees, in order to facilitate the procedures for both the students and the parents.
The ministry added that the aim of the card is to access the digital content knowledge bank outside the school, and for students to perform their online examinations.
The parents should bring a copy of their national ID number and the student's birth certificate in order to receive the card from the communication company's salesperson. Moreover, the parents should also sign a contract and an acknowledgment of receipt, and the company will afford 1GB for free during the contracting process, with the cost of every 1GB being a monthly EGP 5.
Last week, over 708,000 tablets were distributed to first secondary students in about 2,000 schools in 20 governorates.
As Egypt is looking forward to making critical changes in its public educational system based on its 2030 Vision, it signed an agreement in April 2018 with the World Bank for a five-year loan worth $500m to improve education in Egyptian public schools. One of these changes is to provide students with free tablets, to allow them to access their curricula, and to solve their exams through the tablets.
The Ministry of Education's Spokesperson, Amina Khairy, announced that the trial exams which will take place this month on 24 March will be available on the tablets.
