Egypt's Prosecutor General, Nabil Sadek, called for joining the efforts among the international community, and for the exchanging of views in order to put an end to financing terrorism and money-laundering, during a regional conference with his counterparts from the Middle East and North Africa on Wednesday.
The two-day conference, sponsored by the Egyptian presidency, marks the first of its kind, and came in order to face the growing threats of financing of terrorism and money-laundering.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended the conference, along with a number of public prosecutors from different Arab and foreign countries, ministers, ambassadors, diplomats, heads of Egyptian judicial bodies, according to a statement issued by the cabinet.
Sadek said that the conference is held in light of the general prosecutor's awareness on the development of the methods which terrorist groups use in committing criminal acts and the emergence of new ways to facilitate their funding.
He also noted that technological development is imposing additional challenges as it is facilitating the ways of communications between terrorist groups, which needs a strong confrontation.
The conference is also scheduled to discuss, during the coming sessions, issues related to the challenges and practices to counter terrorism and crimes, and the role of the regional and foreign countries in fighting terrorism and the ways of its funding.
Moreover, it will also discuss the procedures of precautionary measures carried out by the prosecuting authorities, and means of investigating crimes which are coordinated through online networks.
A total number of 41 countries, international organisations from the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia are participating in the conference.
