Egypt's Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, asserted on Monday the importance of the Palestinian cause in order to maintain stability in the Middle East region.
During his speech at the Arab-European ministerial meeting in the Belgian capital Brussels, Shoukry renewed his country's stance regarding the Palestinian cause, which supports the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights. The foreign minister also asserted that Egypt will continue its efforts to unify Palestinians and ease their suffering.
Furthermore, Shoukry hailed the EU efforts toward supporting the rights of Palestinians, asserting the importance of the continuation of those efforts.
Meanwhile, Shoukry's speech also tackled the recent updates in Syria and Libya, the human rights' situation, and efforts of combatting terrorism.
He also addressed enhancing the cooperation with the EU. As for the immigration issue, Shoukry mentioned the Arab efforts in dealing with the issue, particularly Egypt's, in order to offer immigrants and refugees a decent life inside the country.
On the other hand, Shoukry held a bilateral meeting with his Belgian counterpart, Didier Reynders, during the Arab-European ministerial meeting. Both leaders discussed ways of enhancing the bilateral cooperation and the regional issues of common interests.
According to a ministry statement, the two ministers addressed establishing an economic partnership between Egypt and Belgium. Moreover, Shoukry reviewed the recent economic and political updates in the country, while encouraging Belgian firms to invest in Egypt.
For Reynders, he asserted his country's readiness to hear Egypt's view on the recent developments in the Middle East, as well as its efforts on countering terrorism.
The Arab-European summit, which will be hosted by Egypt on 24-25 February, will be attended by presidents of Arab and European states and governments, the ministry continued.
The summit is the first of its kind, and comes in light of the determination of the Arab and European parties to advance the ways of cooperation, and will make a quantum leap in the Arab-European relations, the ministry concluded.
