The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, reiterated on Friday the country's commitment to support Lebanon and its state institutions to reach political stability. Shoukry took part in the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit (AESD) held in Beirut.
During his visit, Shoukry discussed boosting bilateral relations between Egypt and Lebanon with Lebanese President Michel Aoun who expressed his appreciation for Egypt's role in supporting peace and stability in the Middle East.
The Egyptian foreign minister also tackled bilateral and regional relations with the Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri, according to the foreign ministry's spokesperson.
Egypt is keen on maintaining regional stability, Shoukry said, adding that the regional crises in Syria, Yemen, and Libya require restoring state institutions. He pointed out that Egypt is working to find political solutions to end the regional crises.
Furthermore, he added that Syria has an important role in the Arab region and must achieve stability based on political settlement. Libya and Yemen need to reach political solutions which require joint Arab efforts to protect these countries from foreign interventions.
Regarding Egypt's relation with Lebanon, Shoukry affirmed Egypt's constant support for security and stability in Lebanon and the formation of the Lebanese new government as soon as possible.
The meeting also discussed bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Lebanon in vital economic sectors including energy.
