EU, GIZ provide Egypt with mobile units for spreading human rights awareness
Egypt acknowledges UDHR in its constitution, says Surkos

Head of the EU delegation to Egypt, ambassador Ivan Surkos, along with the Country Director of the German Development Cooperation Organisation in Egypt (GIZ), Andreas Kuck, announced on Monday, providing Egypt with mobile units for spreading awareness on human rights.
The EU-organised event was held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), in cooperation with the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR), and GIZ in Egypt.
Surkos said that the human rights concept is not only limited to the rights of gathering and the freedom of speech, but it also encompasses the social and economic rights, with a comprehensive focus on the rights of education, work, and healthcare.
Egypt acknowledges the UDHR in its constitution, affirmed the ambassador, noting that Egypt's sustainable development goals (SDGs) for 2030, also target the same rights for the next generations.
From 2010 to 2015, the EU has supported the NCHR to spread the principle of human rights, said the ambassador, noting that the GIZ and the EU have been cooperating in implementing a technical assistance project in the same field, since 2017.
Additionally, the EU's High Representative Federica Mogherini said that the EU reaffirms its strong commitment towards the multilateral human rights system as the platform for the international community to best address human rights' violations, and to seek accountability—both at the international and regional level—according to a past statement from the EU.
Mogherini added, “By implementing the international human rights framework within our union, we hold ourselves to the same standards which we expect from our partner countries across the world.
This includes our continuous quest to improve the human rights situation at home and abroad.”
