Arab countries account for largest share of company's exports, says CEO

Farm Food for Food Industries aims to achieve EGP 130m in sales by 2020, through expanding exports to existing markets and entering new markets.
Chief Executive Officer of Farm Food Mohamed Al Shorafa, said that the company produces a wide selection of frozen vegetables and fruits, and exports its whole production to Arab countries, Russia, and Europe.
He added that Arab countries account for the largest share of the company's exports, noting that Russia exports mainly four products: broccoli, cauliflower, beans, and strawberries.
Al Shorafa estimated the company's annual production capacity at 9,000 to10,000 tonnes of various products, and it plans to expand its production if demand increases whether in current or new markets.
He added that the company will participate in the WorldFood Moscow this year, which is a major international food and drink exhibition, this year, to promote the company's production in the Eastern European region.
The collapse of the Turkish lira to the dollar will allow the country to increase its exports in the coming period, allowing Egyptian products to compete in Europe, especially, in Russia, because of the geographical proximity between the two countries, Al Shorafa explained.
He further elaborated that the company has joined Egypt's National Food Safety Authority's (NFSA) whitelist after upgrading its factory according to international quality standards, which cost EGP 1.3m.
The NFSA asked the company to apply some amendments to its factory, in terms of its flooring, employment, medical analyses, refrigerators, raw materials, and raw materials storage rooms, he added.
Meanwhile, the NFSA regularly monitors Egyptian factories and this will raise importers' confidence in Egyptian products, Al Shorafa asserted.
He continued to say that Asian countries are very promising for Egyptian products, noting that some companies have already started exporting to Japan and China.
Foreign markets cannot afford to dispense with many Egyptian food products, such as okra and strawberries as these products give Egypt a good competitive advantage in foreign markets, he pointed out that, concluding by stating that Farm Food for Food Industries seeks to enter new African markets in the coming period.
