New UK ambassador returns to Cairo after 17 years
Adams previously served in Egypt from 1998 to 2001 as deputy head of Mission in Cairo, while he joined Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service in 1979.

A new UK ambassador to Egypt, Sir Geoffrey Adams, was appointed by Her Majesty, in succession to John Casson who left his post in Egypt lately, according to a press statement by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Wednesday; adding that Adams will take up his new appointment in September.
Adams previously served in Egypt from 1998 to 2001 as deputy head of Mission in Cairo, while he joined Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service in 1979.
Egypt's Britain relations are very strategic, while the biggest issue, which Egypt awaits is returning British flights to Sharm El-Sheikh after it were suspended following Russian airplane crash at the end of October
2015. UK's investments in Egypt are about $5.6bn in 1,450 projects, ac- cording to previous announcement of former Trade and Industry Minister Tarek Kabil.
Adams is married to Mary Emma Baxter, he has two sons, one daughter. from 2013 to 2017, he was Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Hague, which is a city located on the western coast of the Netherlands and
the capital of the province of South Holland.
From 2009 to 2012 he was the director general for the Political Affairs at the FCO, whereby, in 2009 he was the director of the FCO in Middle East and North Africa, while in 2006 to 2009 he was Her Majesty's Ambassador in Tehran.
Meanwhile, in 2003-2005 he was principal private secretary to the
Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs at the FCO.
Previously, from 2001 to 2003 the new UK ambassador was the consul general in Jerusalem.
In July, Daily News Egypt exclusively reported that former British ambassador, John Casson, will end his post within two months, after he was appointed as the ambassador of the UK in Egypt in 2014.
