Careem officially raises prices of GO, GO+ services
Published in Daily News Egypt on 23 - 06 - 2018

Ride-hailing application Careem officially revealed the new prices of its services on Saturday. "Given the recent changes in the price of fuel in Egypt, Careem has decided to increase the tariffs of trips in order to provide captains with a proper work environment, with the prices also being suitable for users in Egypt," the company said in a statement.
The metre's opening price in Careem's GO service has changed to become EGP 7.5 instead of EGP 7. The price per kilometre travelled is estimated to be EGP 2.75 instead of EGP 2.47, while the wait price is EGP 37 per hour instead of EGP 35. The minimum fare of EGP 10 has not changed.
Meanwhile, for the GO+ service, the metre's opening price starts at EGP 12 instead of EGP 10. The price per kilometre is estimated to be EGP 3.4 instead of EGP 3.1. Careem has not changed the prices of the wait time in GO+, which is estimated to be EGP 60. It also kept the EGP 20 minimum price of the trip unchanged.
Careem took measures last week to reprice the metre's opening price for its various transportation services as a temporary compensation for drivers following the increase in the prices of fuel, until revealing the new pricing of its services.
According to the notice the company sent to its drivers, the new increase rates varied from EGP 1 for Careem Bike services to EGP 6.7 for the airport service.
The Ministry of Petroleum increased the prices of various petroleum products last week by 17.5-67%.
The price of diesel and 80-octane petrol increased by EGP 1.85 to reach EGP 5.5, up from EGP 3.65 previously—a 51% increase.
The price of a litre of 92-octabe petrol increased EGP 1.75 to EGP 6.75 compared to EGP 5 previously—a 35% increase.
The increase rate for a litre of 95-octane petrol increased EGP 1.15 to EGP 7.75 from EGP 6.60—a 17% increase. The largest increase was in the prices of home and commercial butane gas, with increase rates of 66.5-67%, making the price of the former EGP 50 instead of EGP 30, while the latter increased to EGP 100, versus EGP 60 previously.
