Benban transformer substations ready to transfer solar energy
XD-EGEMAC to complete delivery of last station in two weeks, says Ramadan
Published in Daily News Egypt on 12 - 06 - 2018

XD-EGEMAC is to complete the delivery of the last transformer substations in Benban by the end of next week, to transmit the energy produced from the solar park there.
“We have completed the operation of three transformer stations, and the fourth station, which is scheduled to be operational and delivered within 15 days at the latest, has been completed,” said Medhat Ramadan, CEO of EGEMAC.
The installation of high-voltage transformers, control panels, and medium-voltage transformers has also been completed. The stations are ready to transfer all energy from the solar power projects in Aswan, according to Ramadan, who noted that the alliance receives its dues from the Ministry of Electricity on a regular basis, as it is committed to the contract and delivery time.
Although XD-EGEMAC has completed three stations, it is ready to transmit over 1,200 MW of energy. Infinity Solar is the only company that was unable to link its 50 MW project to the network.
The Egyptian-Chinese XD-EGEMAC alliance contracted with the Ministry of Electricity to supply transformer substations to transmit the energy from the solar park in Benban to the national grid.
He pointed out that the company will create 12 power transformers with a capacity of 175 MVA. Nine units are to be installed in Benban stations 1, 2 and 4, while three units will be installed at Benban station 3.
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) received EGP 800m from solar energy investors as part of the cost-sharing agreements, which are among the five agreements signed by qualified investors to establish new and renewable energy projects according to the feed-in tariff programme.
Cost-sharing agreements include contribution to the cost of linking the planned solar power stations to the national electricity grid and the infrastructure works in Benban.
Every company that obtained land to build a solar power plant in Benban paid EGP 20m of the cost of connection.
