Armed Forces Engineering Authority, Spanish company to establish water desalination plant in Alamein
Schneider Electric supplies equipment, electric panels
Published in Daily News Egypt on 26 - 05 - 2018

The Armed Forces Engineering Authority contracted with Spanish company Aqualia to launch a desalination plant in Alamein with a capacity of 150,000 cubic metres per day.
“Schneider Electric will supply electrical equipment, medium-pressure electric panels, low-pressure panels, and speed changers to the desalination plant,” said Mohamed Shaheen, Schneider Electric's vice president for Egypt, North East Africa, and the Levant.
It will also supply power transformers and provide process automation. The supply is expected to be completed within five months.
He explained that Aqualia will undertake the construction of the desalination plant and Schneider Electric will handle supplying the equipment.
Schneider Electric aims to increase its growth rate by 20% annually until 2022, based on the total projects recently acquired by the company in electricity, energy, and other state development projects.
Shaheen added that Schneider Electric is interested in participating in water desalination projects currently being implemented by the Ministry of Housing and has prepared a study on the model of partnership with the private sector in desalination projects to discuss with officials.
In addition, the company's strategy in the coming period is to participate in replacement and renovation services for water and sewage plants, increase efficiency, and reduce energy consumption.
In February, Schneider Electric signed an agreement with the Ministry of Housing and the New Urban Communities Authority to cooperate in the fields of replacing and renovating drinking water and sewage systems, reducing losses, and other functions of the company.
Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly said in an earlier statement that the agreement includes coordination between the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater in Egypt and Schneider Electric to choose a drinking water and sewage plant to serve as a model.
