Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr signed a protocol of cooperation with Ali Gomaa, chairperson of the board of trustees of Misr El Kheir Foundation, worth EGP17.6m, to develop the village of Sheikh Zein El-Din in Tahta, Sohag governorate.
Nasr pointed out that the aim of financing the development project of the village in Sohag governorate is achieving integrated development in the village through supporting the health sector, improving the housing environment for eligible families, and supporting educational institutions in order to achieve sustainable economic growth.
Furthermore, Nasr added that achieving sustainable economic growth will help in promoting private investment and improving public services for all citizens in Egypt.
Moreover, the minister assured that this protocol comes within framework of the ministry's efforts to develop the villages most in need in different governorates of Egypt.
In this context, she pointed to the development of the New Valley governorate, at EGP15m, to provide sanitation to five villages.
Moreover, development in the South Sinai governorate is worth EGP30m to develop
the fishing port in there.
"The ministry also cooperated with development partners to implement a number of projects that would promote small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in marginalised areas that will allow their citizens, especially women, to participate in the growth process, as well as provide 126,000 job opportunities for the most disadvantaged groups," Nasr continued.
The minster stressed that sustainable development can only be achieved if the
concerted efforts of all concerned partners at the local and international levels are combined.
Meanwhile, Gomaa said that his foundation, in coordination with Sohag governorate, will work on the restoration and renovation of old drinking water pipelines
in the village of Sheikh Zein El-Din, in addition to the provision of sanitary drainage connections to several houses in the village, the reconstruction of 41 houses to improve the housing environment in the village, and the establishment of a preparatory school for girls in the village.
For his part, Ayman Abdel Monem, Sohag's governor, pointed out that the World Bank allocated $500m to the governorates of Sohag and Qena, of which $280m is dedicated to Sohag.
He added that Sheikh Zein El-Din village has an area of 10,000 feddans, with a population of more than 7,000 people relying on groundwater.
