Daily News Egypt test drives 3rd generation of Skoda Superb
1,400cc engine gives 150 hp at 5,000rpm

Kayan, exclusive importer of Skoda in Egypt, recently released its new model "Skoda Superb" marking a new start for the Czech auto manufacturer in Egypt.
Despite the decline in sales experienced in the domestic market, the Egyptian dealer bet on its ability and vision in the market, and introduced the new model of the sedan luxury class, after the parent company added a 1,400 CC engine, distributed through four cylinders to meet the needs of the local market.
The parent company released the third generation of the new car for the first time during the International Motor Show in Geneva in 2015.
Daily News Egypt conducted a test drive of Skoda Superb in cooperation with Kayan to preview the vehicle's features and suitability for the nature of the local market.
Overall Shape
Superb has undergone some shape modifications, giving an impression of a more spacious appearance, which is one of the most important updates to its exterior and interior design.
The new dimensions of Skoda Superb are as follows: a length of 4,861 millimetres, a width of 1,864 millimetres, and height of 1,408 millimetres, while the wheelbase is 2,841 millimetres, making it the largest vehicle in its category in terms of to German brands. Speaking of the trunk, the car boasts 625 litres of luggage room.
The front aspect of the car features a fancier and larger grille with attractive LED light-sensitive front lights, in a streamlined manner that distinguishes the car and gives it luxury features.
Engine and Safety specifications
Skoda Superb features a four-cylinder 1,400 cc engine with a 150 hp engine at 5,000 rpm. It has a seven-speed automatic transmission with a maximum speed of 220 kilometres per hour. The engine fuel consumption reaches 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres. The new car provides security and safety to its passengers. It is equipped with airbags for the driver seat and the front passenger seat, in addition to an ABS break system and ESB system and a Park Distance Control system. It also features a rear-view camera and distance sensors.
The tableau comes with an attractive seven-inch touch screen that allows the driver to control the car electronically. The car offers powerful air conditioning, with some modifications including handles to control speed and sound, as well as lights behind the steering wheel.
The steering wheel is simple and easy to move, with buttons to control the sound system and a speed stabiliser. The passenger seats are automatic and provide comfortable positions.
Two price categories
The first category of the Superb, called "Active", boasts a number of luxury features, suitable for the largest and most luxurious Skoda models ever, including six airbags, ABS system, and ASR system. The car's electronic gears are lockable. This category costs EGP 535,000.
It also features ISOFIX children's seat installations, an elegant leather-wrapped steering wheel, plus gearbox swings and electric brakes.
This category also has 16-inch sports wheels, a large eight-inch full colour data display, electric side view mirrors and a sophisticated eight-speaker audio system.
The data display screen has a USB and memory card slots, Bluetooth technology, and the option to use remote speech. The car also features rear-row sensors and an automatic air conditioning system.
The second category, targeting the Egyptian market, costs EGP 635,000.
It is equipped with a sophisticated lighting system, including bi-xenon front lights with LED daytime lighting and LED rear lights.
This edition also features push-button start, keyless entry, tire pressure control, 17-inch metal wheels, natural leather-wrapped seats, automatic rear windshield wipers, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear-view camera.
The car features special controllers for back row passengers, besides special control buttons, in the front passenger seat, that can be used to control the rear seat.
