Electricity Ministry notifies government institutions about unpaid dues
The unpaid dues to the ministry of electricity registered at EGP 28bn until February
Published in Daily News Egypt on 15 - 03 - 2017

An official in the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company said that the total dues of governmental institutions, including a number of ministries and sovereign and administrative agencies, to the ministry of electricity reached EGP 28bn. However, the ministry hasn't threatened to cut off the power supply from any institution.
He added that the ministry has notified all government institutions and agencies to pay their electricity consumption bills, denying the possibility of cutting the power supply from any government agency, especially that there are clear and strict instructions from the ministry to keep providing power supply to all vital facilities, even if they couldn't pay their dues.
He also refuted reports that the ministry has threatened to cut off the power supply from metro stations, even though the metro company's unpaid dues reached EGP 270m. He noted that the metro's dues are very low compared to other government agencies, including companies in the drinking water and sanitation sectors.
He said that the cabinet has formed a committee to resolve financial entanglements among ministries, which is working on the settlement of debts at the moment.
Ahmed Abdul Hadi, a spokesperson for the metro company, has announced that the Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation have notified the company to pay its unpaid bills, estimated at EGP 270m to the Ministry of Electricity, and EGP 40m of water bills.
Abdul Hadi added in an official statement that the two ministries have threatened to cut off the power and water supply from metro stations if the company did not pay its dues, as well as taking legal action against the company.
